Last Monday, February 10th 2003, 9:30 AM New Users Lesson, By Corinne Higbee

Monday the beginners at computer reviewed the way to keep the computer running more efficiently. Click on to 1. Start 2. Programs 3. Accessories 4. System Tools 5. Disk cleanup 6. Defragmenter. This process should be done every month, at the end of the day. This allows the space on the hard drive to be organized for the hard drive to make faster connections. If your computer is working slowly it may be that you have ignored this process.

We looked at different sites and went through the process of downloading a program for the reading of files. We will review this lesson next week also. I promised I would give you the sites we looked at so you could add the ones you want to your list of favorites.

A View From The Stool

Invitation To A Special Program

Mark Haley of Analytical Software will present an interesting and informative program about using DVDs on Monday, February 17th in the West Hall. I am including here a BRIEF synopsis of a lengthy e-mail that I received from Mark. Rather than include the several pages that Mark wrote, I invite you to visit their web site for additional details. I’m sure Mark will have an exciting presentation for us, which will start PROMPTLY at 10:30 on Monday.

Everyone is adding DVD players to their TV sets and including DVD drives in their computers. It is estimated that fifty percent of Americans had them by the end of 2002. But Mark says “DON’T BUY YOURS UNTIL YOU SEE THIS EXCITING PRESENTATION THAT DISCUSSES WHICH HARDWARE YOU SHOULD BUY.” See amazing DVD Videos on America’s National Parks showing spectacular footage from Acadia to Yellowstone You will be reminded why it's great to live and travel in America. There is a stunning DVD on Japan, an exotic, safe and exciting country with incredible castles, cities, and hot springs. One of our DVDs will provide you the opportunity to learn 6 languages including Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese. Additional titles available on CD-ROM present Nature and Travel. All of our DVDs and CD-ROMs will be only $10, except the language software, which is $15──this is a 50 percent discount from our normal price. These make great gifts for your family and friends or yourself. Many additional details are available on our web site at www.mypctalks.com .

Our products include (1) America’s National Parks & Forests (in DVD and CD-ROM), (2) Japan: Samurai, Geisha and Technology (in DVD) (3) My PC Talks (which in addition to English teaches Spanish, French, German, Italian and, Japanese. It also includes amazing text-to-speech technology), (4) Planets and Stars: A Guide to the Universe (5) Bird watching: A Multimedia Guide and (6) The World’s Great Cities, Parks, and Wildlife These CD-ROMs run on Windows 95, 98, Windows ME and XP.
