Barron’s BytesBy Val BarronWe Did LunchOn Monday, December 8 many
club members had lunch at Lin’s Grand Buffet. Lin’s was an interesting
change from our usual lunch at Mr. Gattis.
The selection was large and varied and all who attended had a good time while
enjoying their lunch. Door PrizesThanks to all who
contributed items for door prizes-Dave Cisna,
Marlin Johnson, and Bill Wiese. If I’ve failed to
acknowledge anyone, I apologize. Downloading and Installing ProgramsWe ran out of time in the
demonstration and discussion of downloading and installing programs so that
topic will be continued at the next meeting. This process consists of
several related operations: 1) determining the folder the compressed
program file will be saved (downloaded) to, 2) downloading the
compressed program file, 3) unzipping the file, (4 finally
choosing the folder the uncompressed program file will be saved
to. You may also be asked if
you would like to have a shortcut to the program file placed in the
start menu programs folder, in the startup folder, and in the
desktop folder. At this point you will be ready to run the program Remember,
think files and folders. InkTo reduce the cost of printer ink we basically have two choices. Buy cartridges on line that are either remanufactured or compatible. For example, most Hewlett Packard cartridges have a patented print head in each cartridge so no one else can manufacture them but recycled HP cartridges can be “remanufactured” by ink supply companies. The price for these remanufactured cartridges remains fairly high however. On the other hand for printers like Cannon and Epson we can buy “compatible” cartridges or tanks at a very reasonable price. For these reasons I buy ink and refill my HP cartridges but Jan is able to buy compatible cartridges for her Cannon printer. Jan’s compatible cartridges cost about half as much as the original Cannon cartridges. Best Deal In Town
While ordering Jan some cartridges from
InkSell.com earlier this week, I spoke to InkSell’s
Retail Marketing Manager-Charlie Smith. Charlie agreed to give our club a
special deal during December. Below is a slightly edited version of Charlie’s
e-mail to me.
