BGRCC Bulletin for Feb 15, 2010
At the next BGR Computer Club the first session at 9:00 will be a continuation of the basic operation of the computer by Gary. The general session at 10:30 will be a continuation of "I have pictures on my camera, now what do I do?" Beginners begin setting up at 8:30 and the lesson begins at 9:00. The general session begins at 10:30 and is over at 11:40. We break for lunch and begin the Tutorials at 12-1 on Monday,Wednesday and Friday. All members were reminded to have a GMAIL account so everyone would be in the same application when we teach email. The 15th of February, this next Monday, is our luncheon out at Concita's Kitchen. It is close by and serves Mexican and American foods. To get there, go north on Bentsen Palm Drive to Mile One Road, also known as Veterans Road. It is about a half mile north of the 83 expressway. Turn left, which is west, about a mile. Concita's Kitchen is on the right side of the road and will sneak up on you if you are not careful. There is a fairly large sign at the front. If you need additional directions we will be glad to provide them on the 15th. No tutorials/workshop on this Monday. If you have a real problem we will work something out. Ask during the break in the sessions or after the sessions. Jim Antley will do a presentation this Sunday in 3R for those interested in working with digital cameras and editing and using the digital pictures. Some of the questions that will be asked is basically, "What would you like to do with your pictures? What do you want to learn? How can I help you?" Those are not Jim's exact words but my interpretation of a few comments we exchanged Bring your thoughts and questions to the session at 2:00 on Sunday. These could be very useful sessions. A lot of warnings have been issued that the use of "Internet Explorer" may expose your computer to attacks through flaws in the program. You may recall that the advise is to use "Mozilla Firefox" for navigation throughout the web. This is good advise. But bearing that in mind, Do not remove IE from your computer. Microsoft will not update your operating system with any other search engine except IE. Remember that Microsoft does not like to recognize programs that it has not created. Allow your computer to get its updates with IE and do your searching with something else, like Firefox. If you need to down load the antivirus AVG or Avira click on the site below and the download will be completed in ten minutes depending on the speed of your connection. Choose the antivirus you want and click on it. Save the file and click on the download for the installation to be completed. Writing about your youth or early marriage or any stories that you might like to tell for your children and grandchildren can seem intimidating before you begin. Once you are started I can assure you that it will become easier. Ralph Lamkin (rgears5@gmail.com) brought in a small book to a club session that could be a great aid in getting started. He says--
