BGRCC Bulletin for March 1, 2010

This Saturday and Sunday there will be a SIG for those interested in digital photography. Jim Antley is leading two sessions on Picasa this weekend. Next weekend will be two sessions on Photoshop Elements. Jim has sent out some pictures which he will be using during the sessions. If your e-mail address was on his list you can download them from the net. If you do not receive the pictures by e-mail and want to get them before the session starts Jim will have a thumb drive so they can be put on your computer. This way everybody can work on the same pictures. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE YOUR COMPUTER WITH YOU. There will things to learn even if you do not have a laptop computer.

Gary is planning to talk about using the Internet during the first session. (That is of course if we can get access to the Internet. Some work was done on it Thursday and it should be running well.)

The second session would be a good time to look at some of the interesting websites that are available. Hopefully this will tie into the first session. If you have a particular website that you like bring it to the session and share it with the rest of us.

Corinne has done some "tweaking" to the address book of the BGRCClub so hopefully there is better contact with all the members. If you know of anyone that is having trouble getting the bulletin have them let us know and we will get the problem fixed.

The following was sent to be added to the bulletin

Dear BGRCC members, We have two very good people that can take care of your computers if you have a hardware problem with them. I was asked about members recommendations and here are two we received this week.

Tim Watkins, computer repair at Shary Road-E.28th 2217 on corner. Telephone 956-585-6203

I had Tim Watkins at my house to fix a problem with my ..dll library (a major component had just disappeared!) He fixed it quickly and also updated my AVG to version 9 and "cleaned" up a few things. He teaches at Sharyland HS - choir and computer maintenance. His price was very fair and if I need help again, I won't hesitate to call him Barbara Goff

Chris Mayes computer support.

If your computer needs repair then you can get a diagnostic work for ten dollars and labor for repair at twenty five dollars an hour from Chris Mayes. His telephone number is (956) 655-5393. His email is chris@chrissuport.net.

Hello I just had Chris Mayes over to do some work on my computer. He did an excellent job and was very reasonable in cost. Also, he is through with his work in San Antonio and is available every day for assistance.

From Jim Antley:
Thanks for your interest in the Picasa Workshop this weekend. We will be meeting in 3R from 3-5PM on Saturday Feb. 27 and Sunday Feb. 28. Please have Picasa 3.6 downloaded and installed on your laptop prior to coming to the workshop. You can download Picasa 3.6 at http://picasa.google.com/
I have gathered some pictures for us to use in the workshop. Go to the link below and follow the directions to save these pictures to your computer. http://jimantley.com/workshops/picasa/workshop_pictures/

If you have some pictures you would like for us to use in the workshop, email them to me or bring them to the workshop. If you need help with downloading Picasa and/or the pictures, I will be available during the Computer Help sessions on Wednesday and Friday from 12-1 PM.
If you need help and can't come to these sessions, please let me know and I can arrange to meet you.

Thanks, Jim

A big thank you to Gary Bernier for your support in repairing our projector and sound system. These are two vital pieces for the computer club and it is the volunteers that make the club available for all to enjoy.
