BGRCC Bulletin for March 29, 2010

I am repeating the following information for those of you that would like to save it and did not do so.
Holding down the Control and plus keys will increase the font size on many , but not all, pages. If you tape the plus key again while holding the control down it will continue to increase the font size. The control with the minus key will decrease the size of the font.

If you get a pop up that you do not know where it came from, remove it with the control and "w" keys. This will prevent mallware from coming on to your computer through the pop up add. Just hiting the "x" or close on the popup will still introduce the malware.

Dear BGRCC member.
There is a trojan that is entering those computers using Internet explorer or Yahoo browser that is not being caught by AVG antivirus. It is being stopped by Stopilla and your computer is protected if you are using Stopzilla with AVG 9.0/ The following conversion took place this week.

My ZXX is back! I removed it and the files it was in for the second time. I use the Yahoo browser. Where is it coming from?

John Abbott replied:
The trojan is exploiting a vulnerability in IE and once it has gained a footing it remains in IE.

This is a very dangerous trojan because its there to steal you identity, passwords and anything else it can find. Because of this trojan the British, French and Danish governments sent out a notice to immediately stop using IE and use Firefox. There have been no reports that I can find of trouble with Google Chrome. But get off and stay off of IE (yahoo) until they find a fix.

Please go to the download site and get Stopzilla on your computer and run it if you are using IE or Yahoo on your computer. This information is being repeated from your February 8 bulletin.

I have had the best results with the AVG anti-virus free or Professional (pay), Comodo firewall free and Stopzilla malware cleaner (pay). Make sure you have your computer protected.

You can get downloads from this site. It will save you down load time as it comes direct to your computer when you click on the symbol. If you have a slow connection and would like a download you can send an email to John Abbott at johnabbott1936@gmail.com Here is the public key: http://my.pogoplug.com/share/saeLFgf6vA4b0LMdIQOfCg/

And here is the RSS feed to tell you when I make changes:
http://my.pogoplug.com/feeds/Z3VVeAPVTF3fhmcchbiBIw

If people use the RSS feed, it will list every program installed. They can then click on the file name in the RSS feed and download the specific program. The RSS feed is really the easiest way to access the files.
