If you would like to create a blog Doug has left instructions. They are located at:http://bgrcc.blogspot.com We have two very well qualified people to repair computers available to us. They will come to you, and work with your computer or if it will take some time for the work, they will take it home and return it the next day. Both have worked for us in the park and they are reasonable and the work is well liked. Chris has a fee of thirty dollars an hour. Tim has increased his price to thirty five dollars an hour. Chris Mayes- Computer Specialist call (956) 655-5393 Tim Watkins- Computer Repair call (956) 585-6203 You may want to transfer this information to your address book to have it handy when the time arise ______________________________ Chris Mayes, a computer specialist that works in our park, called me yesterday to say that the Internet is being over run with viruses that have been seen previously in years pass. They are being worked over and released back at such a rate that your anti virus may not have a current update to protect you. Do not download from unfamiliar web sites. Chris said many of these are coming from China but the shear volume is increasing. ___________________________________ You can check your Window's Firewall by going to START, Control Panel, and have the icons set on the category. Click on Windows Firewall. It should be green to show it is working and your computer is protected. If it is red then try to turn it on. If it will not turn on then go to our web page at www.bgrcc.com and click on Top Downloads. I found that Comodo works well as a Firewall with our browsers. Download Comodo Firewall and run the updates. You can use two firewalls on your computer and if the Windows Firewall is compromised then you should have the added protection of Comodo. If you would like to have a way to get on the Internet in case you do get a virus you can install a live Linux CD on your computer. Linux is a free operating system that can not get infected by Windows Operating System viruses. I have downloaded Ubuntu 11.40 on my computer and it runs in an easy manner. You will have Firefox Browser installed with it so you can easily access the Internet. You can surf the Internet and not worry about picking up rogue viruses. It comes with its own firewall. You can download athttp://www.ubuntu.com/ As a temporary measure you can run from a live CD but not save. You can install on your computer as a dual boot and save your work on the Linux operating system then. To set the firewall you go to Systems, Administrator and scroll down to firewall setting ( a little shield). Click on shield, give your password and click on enable. John Abbott said if you come by his place at A-9 he will install it and answer any questions. He will give you a live CD which will protect you by giving you access to your computer. If you stay on the Linux system you are safe but if you are on the Window's side a virus can wipe out everything on your hard drive including the Linux side of a dual boot. Keep the live CD as an emergency backup. John Abbott will give more information in our next bulletin on using a live Linux CD. Tutorials for Window's 7.
