Prior to 1998 a computer group held several meetings in the Hanger to discuss their computer interests. Attending these meetings were Ed Tellier (deceased), George Kelly, Harold Buechly, Val Barron, Roger Block, Marlin Johnson and Pat Ingram. In the fall of 1998 George, Harold and Roger (the Deacon) met with Val and corralled him to organize the Bentsen Grove Resort Computer Club (BGRCC) as we know it today.

It is not possible to recognize and thank the many individuals who have supported and helped in carrying out the club’s activities. None of you have been forgotten and your interest and help is appreciated. The following individuals have been singled out to thank for their prominent role in the Bentsen Grove Resort Computer Club’s organization and continued growth.

George Kelly George Kelly was the man behind the scenes and the catalyst to help start the computer club. His computer interest and expertise was always shared with all members at the club’s meetings. George was very generous in sharing a lot of software and kept very busy in helping many individuals with their computer questions, to repair and update their computers. George you are missed at the club’s meetings; come back as soon as you can.

Val Barron served as the club’s official recognized Chairman (1988-2004) by the Park’s Activities Office. He deserves special thanks for the many hours necessary to organize the club, to spread news of the club, to increase its membership and to take care of many organization details. Monday morning meetings had to be planed to accommodate both beginners and advanced users. During the weekdays he was always helping individuals with their computer problems. Val as the mouth and George Kelly as the brains both brought their expertise to the club’s meetings for all to enjoy. Val… we all look forward to your continued participation at the club’s meetings. THANKS

Val Barron

Harold Buechly

Harold Buechly, the quiet one, has always taken an active role in the club’s meetings prior to becoming it’s current chairman in 2004. As the Web Master, he designed and is editor of the weekly BGRCC bulletin. Harold spends hours every week to carry out his Chairman responsibilities, to work with and help with the Park’s wireless web /DSL problems and helping individuals with their computer questions/problems. His presentations and those of invited outside speakers at the club’s general meetings are always thoughtful, helpful and interesting. Harold… keep up your outstanding work.

Corinne Higbee Bobbie Hopkins was the first instructor at the club’s weekly beginners presentations from 2000 to 2002 and Corinne Higbee, a superb teacher, is now conducting these sessions. Corinne spends lots of time every week to prepare lessons and handouts. She remains active throughout the week by taking part in the club’s Emergency Response Team and working with the special interest group on Investment. Hats off to both of you for helping so many.

John Abbott John Abbott, the Linux man, has always provided help to the club by taking part in its Emergency Response Team. He is a highly respected computer professional and has been able to help with many difficult perplexing problems individuals encounter with their computers. His many presentations at the club’s general meetings have been helpful, informative and outstanding. The club is fortunate to have this kind of expertise that John is willing to share. Visitors are always welcome when the window blinds are open. Come in… the coffee pot is on. Thanks John for your help and friendship.

Pat Ingram for many years has supported the club in many ways and runs the computer for presentations at the beginners meetings. Pat conducts a used equipment sale on the first Monday of each month. Many items are donated to the club. Funds raised by this helpful activity are used to purchase items for club door prizes.  Thanks Pat for all the time you have given to help in this time consuming way.
